The Last Ten Years Preview

On Monday January 24, a special preview premiere for Michihito Fujii‘s Yomei 10 nen a.k.a. The Last Ten Years was held at the Marunouchi Picadilly Cinema in Tokyo. Director Michihito went on stage with his two leads, Komatsu Nana and Sakaguchi Kentaro, in the company of several cast members: Yuki Yamada, Nao, Haru Kuroki, Hideko Hara and Yutaka Matsushige.

Overwhelmed by emotion at some point, Komatsu Nana said she felt kind of burnt-out at the end of the shooting (she lost a lot of weight to play the role) but confessed she was very happy to be on the stage to present a film that means a lot to her. She thanked the cast and crew for their hard work.

The film, distributed by Warner Japan, is bound for a Japanese official release on Friday March 4, nationwide. Official Film Site: The Last Ten Years.

Winter Updates for Yomei 10 Nen

Yomei 10 Nen (余命10年) aka The Last Ten Years will hit Japanese theaters on Friday March 4. The new film by director Michihito Fujii (The Journalist, Day and Night, Yakuza and the Family…) is based on the true story of Japanese writer Ruka Kosaka who suffered from a rare and incurable disease and sadly passed away in 2017. Lead actors: Komatsu Nana (Matsuri) and Sakaguchi Kentaro (Kazuto)

A second trailer and a new poster have been released as well as the title of the theme song, うるうびと/uruubito (Leap People?) written and performed by The Radwimps.

Additional cast members: Yamada Yuki (Takeru, a friend of both Matsuri and Kazuto), Nao (Sanae, Matsuri’s best friend), Iguchi Satoru, Kuroki Haru (Kikyo, Matsuri’s elder sister), Tanaka Tetsushi, Lily Franky, Hara Hideko (Yuriko, Matsuri’s mother) and Matsushige Yutaka (Matsuri’s father).

Filming Yomei Ten Nen

News about the shooting and making of have surfaced on the internet: Director Michihito said he did not want his movie to be a melodramatic romance but rather a ‘documentary’, not about how the heroin died but about how she lived and spent those last ten years.

Ruka Kosaka suffered from an incurable disease and sadly passed away in 2017, at the age of 38, before her book, a fiction with a strong bind with her own life, was published and became a best-seller. The Last Ten Years

Directed by Michihito Fujii (The Journalist, Day and Night, Yakuza and the Family…) it is based on the true life and sad story of Ruka Kosaka whose novel Yomei 10-nen (余命10年) was published in 2007. The writer suffered from an incurable disease and passed away in 2017.

Plot (Yahoo Japan): Nana Komatsu plays Matsuri, a 20-year-old girl who learns that she has only 10 years to live due to an incurable disease that affects only one in tens of thousands of people. Knowing her own life expectancy, she vows not to fall in love, but is attracted to Kazuto (Kentaro Sakaguchi), whom she meets at a local reunion of former schoolmates.
