Ito Ebisu Promo Event

[Updated] A live promo event was held today (Tuesday 11) in Tokyo at the Ebisu Garden Hall (south of the Shibuya area). Separated by panes of plexiglass, Director Takahisa Zeze and his two leads talked about Ito bound for a nationwide theatrical release on August 21, Japan.

Director Zeze said he observed Komatsu Nana and Masaki Suda interact and found they got along well in between takes but when it came to playing the scenes they got into something new and he was very pleased they were able to bring that. He added that no special request came from singer songwriter Miyuki Nakajima yet she asked him not to make a sad ending. 🙂

Nana Komatsu helped a lot on the set, trying to get food for the extras especially on one cold day in Hokkaido. Masaki Suda said he and Komatsu had been working together several times and was glad they could work together again. Watching Masaki Suda play and interact with the kid actors, she said he would be a good father.

Referring to the period of emergency and restraint Nana Komatsu said she missed the connection between people, the communication, adding that though things aren’t back to normal she’s happy to open up again.

The two added that things they did on screen in the past were rather intense (spitting, choking each other…) whereas Ito was more like a classic love story.

TV Japan Ito Interview

TV Japan has just published an interview of actress Komatsu Nana, they asked her about her role and the filming of Ito, the forthcoming movie from director Takahisa Zeze (nationwide preview on August 13 and theatrical release on August 21)

Below is a summary in English of selected highlights (original article and interview in Japanese: The tv.jp)

She says she has a connection with nearly all the actors/actresses in the movie, especially with Mizuki Yamamoto whom she worked with in Close Range Love but also with Masaki Suda as they’ve been working together in three movies.

Filming in Singapore was a lot of fun and together with Mizuki Yamamoto and Mahiro Takasugi they went to a lot of food stalls. 🙂

She has good memories of Okinawa too where she was with Takumi Saito whom she describes as a nice and calm person.

Crying over her plate of food was quite a scene and Miyuki Nakajima‘s song in the background helped her out.

She remembers her debut in The World of Kanako and how Director Nakashima -whom she saw then as a scary person- helped her out when she didn’t know what to do. She found fun in acting, adding that life is all about turning points.

Ito Promo in Progress

TV appearances, promo messages from the two leads, sponsoring from Niko and, as the production team continues feeding Twitter with stills from the ‘making of’ and some other new pics, the campaign has entered a new phase with the announcement of a pre-screening special day: viewers will get a chance to watch Ito before its national theatrical on 21/08. Ito Promo Season 2

Because of the covid-19 pandemic the Japanese film industry underwent a great number of cancellations and postponements. Though Ito should normally hit theaters on August 21, the 4 months delay (initial date was April 24) made it necessary to launch another promo campaign with new material and events.

Consequently and 6 weeks from its new nationwide theatrical release the production provided a new clip, a music video with footage from the film and the making of. The track is a (long) cover version of Miyuki Nakajima’s song performed by Masaki Suda and Huwie Ishizaki.
