Following a very decent box-office in 2020 (in the top ten), Takahisa Zeze‘s movie gets kudos from the Japanese Academy Awards. Excellence Prizes (equivalent to nominations) for Best Actor (Masaki Suda), Best Actress (Nana Komatsu) and Best Soundtrack (Seiji Kameda).
The 44th Japanese Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 19 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo where both winners (Grand Prize) and ‘nominees’ (Excellence Prize) will meet and discuss their works. This is the 3rd time actress Komatsu Nana gets a nod from the Academy (one win and one nom so far) thus inflating a pretty decent list of awards and nominations.
Stunning photoshoot of actress and model Komatsu Nana in Spoon Magazine Vol.55. This was actually part of a series of mooks called ‘Angelic Pretty‘ featuring models wearing loli or loligoth clothes. This magazine was published one month after the release of Nana Komatsu‘s first featured film, The World of Kanako, a breaking role which launched her acting career. The 20 page article comes along with an interview. Photographs by Matsuki Kousuke.

Thrill ! The Black Chapter (黒の章) and The Red Chapter (赤の章) was an NHK drama broadcast in February and March 2017. Both ‘chapters’ are parallel stories with detective Togawa (Keisuke Koide) from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police as a central protagonist and two other characters who often interfere: Shinnosuke Shirai the lawyer (Koji Yamamoto) and Hitomi Nakano (Nana Komatsu) an accountant who works for the general affairs department of the Police.
Whereas The Black Chapter deals with the adventures of both TogawaandShinnosuke with Hitomi in the background, The Red Chapter focuses on Togawa and Hitomi. Each chapter has 4 episodes with a runtime of approximately 48′ per episode.
Togawa: he is a determined detective, quick to act and he won’t back down when beating up criminals becomes necessary. Lawyer Shinnosuke often gets in the way and proves to be a hindrance more often than not. On the contrary, Hitomi is a helper and without her Togawa wouldn’t be able to solve difficult and sometimes mysterious cases.
Hitomi: she is not a detective, her job is to check if the members of the police, whatever their position, make proper use of public money. She’d love to be one though and she definitely could: smart and nosy she’s fast thinking and knows how criminals act and play to fool people as her own father was a conman.
The company which produced this short film (Qotori Films) no longer exists and the director’s facebook page disappeared for some time… the good news is that director Daisuke Shimada is back in business on both Instagram and Facebook and it is now possible to purchase the Tadaima DVD again !
The DVD is a nice single disc digipack with a booklet, the film on HD and a bonus music clip, an alternate version of Tin Plate/ブリキ by Radwimps, featuring Nana Komatsu. The short film was released in 2013, and it actually was the first real cinema appearance of the actress, before The World of Kanako.
It’s a moving story, a trip on a taxi to the Tohoku region where a teen girl, Sumire, has lost her home and parents because of the terrible tsunami which hit Japan on March 11, 2011. More details about Tadaima on this post which was published in June 2019: Tadaima Short Film.
